PowerDocks Wins 2018 Electric & Hybrid Marine Industry Innovation of the Year Award
Newport, RI – PowerDocks, LLC announces the winning of the Electric & Hybrid Marine Industry acclaimed Innovation of Year Award during a ceremony held on June 29th as part of the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo and Conference held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. With a judging panel that boasted some of the world’s leading marine journalists, industry experts and academics, the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards are among the most sought-after accolades within the marine industry.
A 40-member jury, headed up by John Thornton, editor of Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International and co-chairman of the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards and including journalists from Marine Link, Maritime Executive and Marine Log, honored PowerDocks in recognition of its BlueIsles™ Solar Microgrid Dock innovation. For this year Innovation of the Year Award, the jury was asked to vote solely for the pioneering technology or technical innovation that they felt pushed the boundaries and contributed in some way to making electric and hybrid propulsion possible and viable. John Thornton, a jury member quoted "Considering the modest size and relatively young age of the company, PowerDocks' achievement in this ferociously competitive category is all the more admirable. But make no mistake, this first-of-its-kind floating solar dock deserves to be recognized on its own merit; it's a genuinely impressive piece of technology that has the potential to revolutionize the charging and docking capacity of marinas worldwide" .
The BlueIsles™ Solar Microgrid Dock is a first of its kind floating solar dock outfitted with walkable non-skid photovoltaics (solar modules), energy storage and power distribution able to provide renewable electrical power to Boaters located in remote locations away from marinas. The new solar dock offers multiple boaters the benefit to dock and power up for extended periods of time without the need to carry power generators. Anthony Baro, Managing Partner and Co-Founder states “Electric & Hybrid Marine Propulsion Vessels will now be able to recharge in remote locations in the aquatic space independent from shore power sources”. The new Blue Isles™ Solar Docks can be interconnected to Marinas’ and Ports electrical grid systems for delivering in-situ sustainable power, offsetting power usage expenditures and or interconnected as distributed generation facilities for providing power to local utilities in applicable jurisdictions. “Marinas floating infrastructure can now feature BlueIsles™ technology to transform them into sustainable power generating and energy storage facilities for independent local power resiliency”.
Chris Fagan and Anthony Baro, PowerDocks Managing Partners and Founders, collaborated with several Marine Industry Leaders including Bellingham Marine®, ThruFlow™, Solbian, and HyPower™ in the development of their new product. “We are honored to be the recipient of this electric and hybrid marine industry recognition award. BlueIsles™ docks are completely customizable in size, materials, energy generation and storage configurations to serve the needs of our customers” states Anthony Baro. “We are excited to offer environmentally friendly solutions to boaters and marine industries seeking to benefit and positively impact our environment” stated Chris Fagan.
